OCTOPUS

Next
A color realism octopus by Mai Zait. The difficulty in this subject is skin — octopus texture shifts constantly, smooth into raised, one colour bleeding into the next, so the piece rests on the transitions rather than on outline. Warm reds and oranges worked against deep ocean blue, suckers rendered one by one instead of suggested, and the eye carrying the whole composition. The arms follow the limb rather than sitting on top of it, so the piece moves with the wearer.
